Planning BCHQ

Planning BCHQ

I'm wondering if planning new projects is as exciting for you as it is for me...

Closing is supposed to happen tomorrow... scratch that. Now Monday.

Note no. 1: I say 'supposed to happen' because I am preparing myself for pieces of the journey not to go as planned. I have managed the construction of a bunch of houses in the past (far past) and remember how often schedules need to change. The current reality, like rising costs and high demand, do not make me think it will be any different this time around.

The difference is that this house will be our family's home. There is something special about that.

It won't be big.

It won't be fancy.

It will be comfortable.

It will be accessible.

It will be restful.

It will be full of books, and maps...

It will be a place where our kids will learn how to work hard and celebrate. Where dreams are possible. The kind of dreams that are fueled from the kind of education that comes from exploring. From trying. From responsibility.

It will be a place where we will sit on the porch at the end of the day and listen to quail call, or perhaps rain fall. The same porch where fish are fried that were caught in the tank down the hill from the house.

It will be a place where our kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids will want to be.

Note no. 2: Our oldest, Will, is 18 and getting ready to go off to college... there are no grandkids or great-kids... yet.

So with all that and so much more in mind, we are launching out on this journey. The ropes are about to be cut.

Ordering windows on Monday. Meeting with site work and foundation contractors on Thursday...
